“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.” – Eleanor Roosevelt
Upon reflecting on the past year, I realize that life is too short to rush through. We are taught that in order to be successful, we have to be hard-working; and so we are, but sometimes to the point of living a life of predictable, mundane routines. Some of us are content, while others feel empty. What exactly is missing? What is your definition of success? Whatever it is, it’s never too late to become the person you want to be, to do the things you want to do, and to live life fully in a cheerful and peaceful manner, savoring each step of the way.
The New Year is always a great time to cultivate our best selves. Each day is another chance for a fresh start, releasing anything that holds us back. We should strive to shape our lives intentionally with healthy and mindful choices, such as replacing negativity with an attitude of gratitude, using positive words, and smiling more. Take time to learn new things and feed our inner souls, be kind and generous, and be blessings to others.
PLAY. Most of us get so caught up with the daily grind, we forget to laugh and appreciate the little things that surround us. We allow stress to take over and don’t realize how it affects our personalities, our relationships and our vigor. When life gets too serious, we must take a step back and reflect on how to find the right balance, continue doing the necessary, while adding time to rest and play. Perhaps, we should find ways to relax without technology; or find new passions and activities that delight our inner child. We can still be responsible and serious, while taking a light-hearted approach to life.
WANDER. We live in a world full of beauty and charm that we take for granted. The next time we think our problems are so huge, we need to remember just how tiny our little lives are in this universe. Better yet, we could adjust our focus and develop a new way of seeing things. We should dare to wander, explore and discover the world around us. Getting out of our comfort zone and experiencing what we have not experienced will expand our knowledge and our zest for life.
LIVE. Life is an endless adventure filled with exciting things to do and see. Be open to enjoy living in the moment. Experience what is around you as if you’re seeing it for the first time. Take time to renew your mind, body and soul. You have the right to enjoy your journey. Play. Wander. Live.
